About the Event
The Dave Fons Memorial Fund began hosting a fishing tournament in Florida in 2020. Since then, the event has grown exponentially into what it is today thanks to our amazing sponsors and anglers. We now hold Junior and Adult divisions, as well as Offshore and Inshore divisions. In addition to the fishing tournament, our two-day event includes a cocktail party, captain’s meeting, raffle, and awards banquet. We currently hold our event at the Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village in Cape Coral, Florida.
Fins for Fons Registration

All registrations include a complimentary official event shirt and swag bag. Guided Captains can be purchased for an additional fee for inshore division anglers.
Frequently Asked Questions
There’s no formal dress code—our awards banquet is a fun, casual, family-friendly celebration! Wear whatever makes you comfortable, whether that’s your fishing attire, a casual dress, shorts, a T-shirt, or a button-down. Hats, sandals, and flip-flops are welcome, too.
We simply ask that clothing provide appropriate coverage for a family event. Come comfortable and ready to celebrate!
Pack sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, lip balm, and a lightweight raincoat—just in case! Bring your preferred beverages, and check with your captain beforehand to see whether you’ll need an extra cooler for your drinks.
Last but certainly not least: bring your smiling face and get ready for a fun day on the water! 🎣😊
Your team will enjoy an inshore fishing trip with a dedicated captain and boat, including use of the captain’s fishing gear, bait, and tackle—plus their local knowledge of Southwest Florida’s fishing spots!
Many of our guided captains have participated since our tournament began and know these waters well. They’ll help your team make the most of a fun, fish-filled day! 🎣
Each guided boat accommodates up to four adult anglers, with the option to add one junior angler, for a maximum of five participants.
The guided captain fee is $950 per boat, purchased separately from angler registration.
If you’re fishing with one of our guided captains, you won’t need to purchase an individual saltwater fishing license—the captain’s valid charter license covers passengers aboard the boat.
If you’re fishing on your own boat, each angler must have a valid saltwater fishing license unless they qualify for an exemption, such as children under 16 or Florida residents age 65 and older. Please check your license’s expiration date before tournament day
Absolutely! We love welcoming guests to our fun, family-friendly tournament weekend—you don’t have to fish to join the celebration! 🎣
